In 2026, Tunqui Expeditions was founded with a clear and heartfelt purpose: to become a truly sustainable and responsible trekking company. We understand that this path is not always easy—but it is a commitment we embrace with integrity, passion, and long-term vision.
From the very beginning, we have chosen to lead our adventures differently. We operate exclusively with small groups of no more than 8 Hikers, guided by two expert local guides. This approach allows us to provide a safer, more personalized, and deeply meaningful experience, while reducing environmental impact and fostering genuine human connection.
We believe that small groups don’t just travel — they connect. They connect with one another. They connect with local communities. And most importantly, they connect with the heart of each destination.
At Tunqui Expeditions, it’s never just about the views.
It’s about reaching a summit at sunrise and feeling the silence of the mountains.
It’s about sharing a meal at a family table in a remote village.
It’s about listening to stories that stay with you long after you return home.
These are the moments that transform us.
These are the journeys that leave a lasting footprint — not on the land, but in our hearts.
We are proud to support and empower the communities we visit, ensuring that tourism becomes a force for positive impact wherever we go.
Together, we don’t just explore landscapes.
We travel deeper — into culture, connection, and consciousness.

Travel that goes way beyond travelling
Call us crazy, but we’ve always believed travel shouldn’t just feel like a break. It should feel like a breakthrough.
When you book with us, you don’t just travel — you give back.
Every journey helps support our annual reforestation program during the rainy season, where we plant native Queuña and Qolle trees in high-Andean communities, protecting water sources and preserving the Andes for future generations.
Our commitment goes beyond funding. The entire Tunqui team takes part in the planting process, working hand in hand with local communities to ensure each tree is planted with care, purpose, and long-term impact

Change the world simply by having the time of your life.
We have always believed in the power of travel to change lives. But for that power to truly exist, we must travel the right way.
From the very beginning, Tunqui Expeditions vision of responsible travel has been rooted in giving back as much — or even more — than we receive. Yes, travel should be unforgettable (have you joined one of our tours?), but we also believe that travel should be a force for good.
That’s why our journeys are guided by clear principles:

We believe the Earth is our home, and protecting it is not optional — it is a responsibility. This commitment guides everything we do as a responsible travel company.
Every February, Tunqui Expeditions organizes an independent cleaning campaign along our routes of operation.
Sustainability also shapes our daily operations. We do not use plastic bags and have replaced them with reusable woven bags for transporting supplies, significantly reducing waste along the trails.
Through these actions, we aim to protect natural landscapes, respect local communities, and ensure that future generations can experience the Andes in their purest form.

At Tunqui Expeditions, empowerment is part of our foundation.
While the company is led by Silvio Tunqui, our vision has always been to promote gender equality and create real opportunities for women in the tourism industry.
We are proud to be among the first companies to employ Peruvian women as porters, opening doors in a field where opportunities for women were once extremely limited.
On every journey, you will find women working as cooks, assistant cooks, porters, and guides. Within our office, over 70% of our team are women. By traveling with Tunqui Expeditions, you support the empowerment of Peruvian women and help open lasting pathways for women in tourism.

Silvio Tunqui, founder of Tunqui Expeditions, was born and raised in a rural community. Having grown up in the Andes, he understands firsthand the social and economic challenges faced by local families.
Silvio witnessed the limited access many rural communities have to essential health education — particularly oral hygiene. At Andean villages, children clean their teeth using only water, not from neglect, but due to a lack of resources and information.
This reality inspired the creation of our social initiative. Each year, we provide oral health education, hygiene supplies, and preventive care to children in rural Andean communities, helping them build lifelong healthy habits.
Our mission is to collaborate closely with local communities to address social and economic barriers through sustainable, community-based partnerships. By prioritizing children’s health and education.

At Tunqui Expeditions, we believe that learning through experience is one of the most powerful ways to nurture identity, cultural awareness, and pride in future generations.
This project is dedicated to taking children from local communities on educational journeys to explore their own culture and history — visiting archaeological sites, museums, and cultural centers that help them better understand where they come from and why their heritage matters.
By connecting children with their roots, we aim to strengthen cultural identity, inspire curiosity, and create a deeper sense of belonging.
Through education, experience, and cultural connection, we strive to help shape confident, informed, and empowered young generations.

Supporting Local Communities, We Bring Our Customers Closer.
Each of our treks and tours is thoughtfully connected with local communities, creating opportunities for our travelers to support them directly.
Along the way, our guests have the chance to purchase handcrafted items, local experiences, traditional food, or meaningful gifts made by community members. We never encourage excessive spending — even a small purchase, such as a handmade bracelet, can bring joy and make a real difference.
This is more than just travel.
It is sustainable and responsible tourism, where every journey helps strengthen local economies, preserve traditions, and create genuine connections between travelers and communities.

As a Peruvian company rooted in tourism, Tunqui Expeditions works tirelessly to support underserved communities and improve the quality of life in remote Andean villages.
During the Christmas season, our commitment takes on special meaning. We organize Christmas campaigns focused on bringing joy to children in communities where simple traditions — such as receiving toys or sharing panettone and hot chocolate — are often out of reach.
Through these initiatives, we aim to create moments of happiness, warmth, and dignity, while strengthening our connection with local families and communities. These small gestures carry deep meaning, reminding children that they are seen, valued, and remembered.
For us, Christmas is not only a celebration — it is an opportunity to share, give back, and spread hope.

At Tunqui Expeditions, we respect our planet.
That’s why all our trekking operations to Machu Picchu are based on high-quality camping, not domes or cabins.
We believe true adventure means connecting directly with nature. Instead of crowded or poorly maintained cabins — often required by other companies — we offer thoughtfully selected camping sites that allow you to experience the Andes in a more authentic, comfortable, and sustainable way.
Forget overcrowded stops.
Enjoy exclusive campsites, far from the crowds, where silence, stars, and nature take center stage.
That is why our motto is: The Real Green Adventure.
