Join Tunqui Expeditions on an unforgettable journey through time and nature. Begin in the charming town of Chinchero to Urquillos Inca trail, a highland gem blending Inca heritage with colonial history, and descend along an original Inca Trail to the lush Sacred Valley town of Urquillos. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking Andean views, visit a hidden waterfall, and immerse yourself in local culture and agriculture. This moderate, downhill trek is ideal for those who want to combine history, culture, and natural beauty in a single day.
Connect with the beautiful culture of a traditional Campesino weaving village, be welcomed into the home of a local family and embrace the peacefulness of the Andes.
We’ll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco in our comfortable, private van. Enjoy a scenic one-hour drive through the highlands, as we head to Chinchero, one of the most picturesque towns in the Cusco region.
Upon arrival in Chinchero (3,762 m / 12,343 ft), we’ll take time to explore this historically rich town:
Visit the impressive Inca archaeological site with its agricultural terraces and stonework.
Step into the colonial church of Chinchero, built on Inca foundations and adorned with beautiful murals.
Stop at a local weaving cooperative, where Andean women demonstrate traditional weaving techniques using alpaca wool and natural dyes from local plants and minerals—a beautiful living tradition passed down for generations.
We begin our scenic downhill hike along an original Inca trail, once used to connect highland communities to the Sacred Valley. The cobblestone path is surrounded by vibrant landscapes and ancient terraces.
As we descend:
Marvel at stunning views of the snow-capped Chicon and Pitusiray Mountains in the distance.
Enjoy panoramic viewpoints ideal for photos and quiet contemplation.
Witness the changing flora as the landscape transitions from highland scrub to lush agricultural zones.
Midway through our hike, we’ll take a short detour to the beautiful Poc Poc waterfall—a perfect spot to rest, enjoy a snack, and soak in the refreshing mountain air.
After about 4 hours of walking (8 km / 5 miles, entirely downhill), we arrive in the tranquil town of Urquillos in the heart of the Sacred Valley. This region is known for producing the largest corn in the world, thanks to its fertile soil and ancient irrigation systems.
Here, our private driver will be waiting to greet us.
Before returning to Cusco, we can stop in the town of Urubamba, where you’ll have the option to enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant (lunch not included in the tour price).
After lunch, we’ll drive you back to your hotel in Cusco, arriving in the late afternoon with your camera full of photos and your heart full of memories.
