Let’s go on the ultimate Peruvian Andes adventure with our 8-Day Ausangate to Sibinacocha Trek via Rainbow Mountain. This high-altitude expedition is specially designed for Real Hikers seeking a true wilderness experience far beyond the crowded trails of Salkantay Trek. Your journey begins at the majestic foothills of Upis, tracing the rugged contours of Mount Ausangate. You will camp alongside sacred alpine lakes, reflecting the snow capped giants above, and arrive at the iconic Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) in time to witness both a breathtaking sunset and a serene sunrise, completely avoiding the daytime tourist crowds.
The Real Green Adventure escalates as you cross the dramatic Jampa Pass, transitioning into a remote, untouched alpine territory toward the magnificent Sibinacocha Lagoon. This vast, turquoise body of water stretches to the horizon like an inland sea beneath massive glaciers. As you hike along its pristine shores and through giant pampas, you will enter a sanctuary completely dominated by native wildlife. Here, vast herds of alpacas and wild vicuñas roam freely, Andean foxes dart across the plains, mountain deer graze on the slopes, and the mighty Andean Condor rules the skies. This is one of the most exclusive and highly recommended trekking routes in Cusco, offering a pristine, crowd-free wilderness where your group will likely be the only explorers.

The view is truly breathtaking – even if we don’t believe in God, the beauty of these natural landscapes will make us feel the need to thank someone.
Our Sibinacocha Trek 8 Days begins early with a delicious breakfast.
We will start with a gentle uphill hike leading to the incredible natural wonder, Rainbow Mountain (5,100 m / 16,732 ft). Once there, we will appreciate the sunrise, take incredible photos, and enjoy the peace long before other groups arrive.
After this magical moment, your guide will explain the importance of this site in the Andean world.
Later, we will visit the Red Valley viewpoint (5,050 m / 16,568 ft), where the vast valley disappears into the distance.
After exploring the Red Valley, we will return along the same path and descend gradually to Quesiuno (4,376 m / 14,357 ft), where we will enjoy a delicious Andean lunch prepared by our exceptional trekking chef.
After lunch and a well-deserved break, we will continue with an approximately two-and-a-half-hour ascent, enjoying the views of a beautiful green valley with herds of llamas and alpacas.
At night, our camp will be waiting for us at Ausangate Cocha (4,500 m / 14,774 ft), where we will rest comfortably after a delicious dinner.
As every morning, you will receive a warm coca tea in your tent to start the day, followed by a delicious breakfast prepared by our expert chef.
Today’s hike to Sibinacocha Trek 8 Days begins with a two-and-a-half-hour ascent to Palomani Pass (5,200 m / 17,060 ft) – the highest point of the entire route.
After a short break to enjoy the stunning views, we will hike for another hour to reach the small Andean community of Huchuy Phinaya (4,650 m / 15,256 ft). Here, you will enjoy lunch amidst the vast Andean landscape.
We hold great respect for the people of Huchuy Phinaya, who continue to uphold ancestral traditions. You will learn from them and their admirable way of life in harmony with Mother Nature (Pachamama).
Today is the most challenging day, but it is worth it for the genuine connection with the Andes and Mother Earth.
Later, we will take a gentle two-hour hike to Sorapata, where our camp will be ready for your arrival.
After a delicious dinner, you can enjoy a peaceful night’s rest, free from the noise of the city.
Now begins 8-day Sibinacocha Trek with a delicious breakfast to recharge the energy, today is a short hiking day, a day to give relaxation to our legs upon arrival at the campsite, after breakfast, we’ll have a gradual climb up to Yanacocha (Yanacocha means black lake in the Quechua language) this lake features a dark color thus its name as the black lake. Dazzling eroded dark red and black hills will color our hike and glacier peaks in the distance.
After hiking the whole morning, we’ll enter a highland valley that displays more colored hills and lagoons where we can have our lunch around or skip and go directly to the campsite. Next, we’ll continue hiking toward our fifth campsite, we’ll see many herds of llamas and alpacas along the trail as we make it to our next pass located at 5,100 m / 16,732 ft. From the pass, the trail becomes downhill (usually the trail becomes downhill after every pass) to the next campsite located at Quillita located at 4,700 m/ 15,420 ft.
Today, a nutritious just-made breakfast will get us ready for the toughest day. But this will not be a big deal since we’ll be already acclimated to this elevation and on a steady rhythm, we’ll reach the highest point on the whole trail called Condor Pasoor Condor pass at 5,220m / 17,126 ft, once at the top, we’ll be rewarded by stunning vistas of the Vilcabota Mountain range and in a distance the glacial-fed Sibinacocha will loom its beauty, a worthy picture moment.
As ever, the trail is downhill from the pass to reach a valley and a climb up to the next pass before making it to Sibinacocha Lake. Our next campsite is located alongside the waters of the lake and close to the glacial source, this campsite is one of the most beautiful ones on this trek. The lake is home to many birds as it has a special ecosystem for birdlife, birds like Andean geese, coots, species of ducks, Andean gulls, and Ibis can be spotted. Today, we’ll have our lunch around 1:00 PM.
After breakfast, we’ll hike along the shores of Sibinacocha Lake to reach Yayamari, located beneath the mountain of the same name. From this place, we’ll keep hiking on an uneven trail and close by llamas, alpacas and it’s very likely to see a bunch of vicuñas (wild Andean camelids), after a couple of hours hiking, we’ll get to the uphill section to reach the next pass called Ccascana at 5,040 m/ 16,535 ft.
Dramatic highland region views will color today’s hike from the pass, as of the Ccascana pass, we’ll walk towards the Ccascana lagoon (at 4,900 m/ 16,076 ft) where we’ll spend the night, this lagoon is also a home for many species of birds, thus we can spot them roaming nearby the campsite.
Our farewell hiking day of the 8-Day Ausangate Sibinacocha Trek, we’ll leave behind the Ccascana lagoon as we make our way to the end of the trail located in Phinaya, which is a small highland village with a small and beautiful church, upon our arrival, we’ll have our last lunch prepared by our cook, next we’ll say goodbye to our muleteers and eventually we’ll take our private transport back to Cusco, the trip by car will be for about 6 hours, which means that we’ll be arriving at your hotel around 7:00 PM.
Meet your guide and group at our Cusco office at 5:00 p.m. the day before your trek. You’ll receive a duffel bag (maximum 7 kg / 15.4 lb) to be carried by our muleteers or porters. This must include your sleeping bag and inflatable mattress if you rent or bring your own.
