Five years ago, as an explorer, adventurer, and Official Tourism Guide, I was fascinated by the history of the ancient Andean communities. I decided to follow my instincts, combining my passions, my love for service, and my desire to support Indigenous communities. That was the spark that created Tunqui Expeditions.
During that time, I traveled throughout Cusco, hiked the Inca Trail over 100 times, and explored Salkantay, Ausangate, and Machu Picchu from north to south alongside my brothers and fellow explorers, discovering the hidden magic of the Sacred Valley.
My passion for travel and these incredible experiences inspired my vision of providing travelers with authentic luxury experiences. Not just luxury groups and private tours with high-quality service, but also access to unique and extraordinary experiences.
Tunqui Expeditions specializes in providing tailor-made private and group tours in the Incan capital, Cusco, Peru. We are here to guide you through some of the most challenging and breathtaking terrains on Earth.
Our company director, Silvio Tunqui, holds records in tour guiding in Cusco, particularly for the Inca Trail To Machu Picchu, Salkantay Trek, and Machu Picchu. With the help of his brothers, Fredy (specialist in Hospitality & Tourism) and Miqueas (expert in IT systems), he formed the first team dedicated to providing outstanding customer service. In January 2021, after years of shared travel experiences and friendship, Tunqui Expeditions was officially born.
However, Tunqui Expeditions is more than just a company founded by an Official Tourism Guide. It was founded by a Cusqueño from the Sacred Valley—Lamay—who deeply loves his land, culture, customs, gastronomy, and the rich history of his Incan ancestors.
Our heritage gives us a unique perspective on the mountains—one that blends the drive to conquer summits with an ancient, ancestral respect for them.
Cusco, Peru, is not only our workplace but also the home of our family and friends. We believe these places should be open for everyone to explore while also being protected for future generations to enjoy.
While some prefer to run operations from an office, our founders lead from the frontlines. Silvio and Fredy were born to be tour guides, specializing in excursions, trekking, and selecting the best hotels in Peru to provide unforgettable experiences. They continue to lead tours throughout the year, ensuring the highest level of quality and adventure.

Silvio Tunqui – Founder & CEO
Silvio Tunqui, the owner and founder of Tunqui Expeditions, was born in the small village of Poques, Lamay, in the Sacred Valley. He graduated from the Khipu Institute (ISTPK) and grew up speaking Quechua, the local language. His parents still live on the family farm, where he spent his childhood.
Silvio started working on the Inca Trail To Machu Picchu at a young age, where he fell in love with tourism, the sounds of different languages, and the unique habits of travelers. He immediately enrolled in tourism and English studies while working as a porter. After six years of study, he graduated and gained experience as an assistant guide, transfer agent, and, eventually, an official tour guide.
Seeing the growing tourism industry and recognizing the need for high-quality, community-based travel, Silvio decided to take a step ahead and create Tunqui Expeditions—a company dedicated to connecting travelers with local communities and improving the quality of life in indigenous areas.
With the help of his colleagues and expert guides, he started offering direct operations for private and small-group tours, gradually growing into one of Cusco’s leading tour operators.
