Reforestation Campaigns

Reforestation Campaigns

Sometimes, natural forest regeneration is enough to restore ecosystems, but in other cases, reforestation is necessary to support this process.

That is why Tunqui Expeditions, through its Reforestation Program, promotes the planting of native tree species such as Queuña in the Sacred Valley (Lamay) and other natural areas of Cusco.

Objectives

Develop a restoration project to recover natural ecosystems and vegetation by establishing an energy forest of Queuña and Chachacomo with native plants. This initiative will restore water sources and provide environmental protection in Poques Community (Sacred Valley).
Restore forest ecosystems and conserve biodiversity, protecting natural resources and the beauty of the landscape.
Improve the quality of life for local residents by enhancing the environment through intensive reforestation programs.

Key Features

Shared Responsibility

✔ Conduct a community assessment with a participatory approach, addressing the environmental challenges faced in local ecosystems.
✔ Ensure active participation from camp staff and neighboring communities.

Selection of Native Species with Ecological Potential

Tree species selected for reforestation:

  • Queuña (Polylepis incana)
  • Chachacomo (Escallonia resinosa)
  • Aracha (Saracha punctata)

✔ These species are highly adaptable to the region’s environmental conditions and offer significant ecological benefits.

✔ Identify recovery areas to establish an energy forest through a structured reforestation program.

Train the community on future uses of the plantation, including sustainable wood production and environmental protection functions.

A Commitment to Conservation & Community Well-being

This valuable project promotes nature conservation and enhances the well-being of the local community.
It is an inspiring example of how we can work together to care for and protect our planet responsibly.
