  • Small bottle of soap: we provide warm water every day for cleaning – it might make you feel fresh if you had some soap.

To start your Huchuy Qosqo trek, we pick you up at your hotel at 6 a.m. and take you to the Inca site called Puca Pucara (3,700 meters), only 20 minutes from Cusco. From there, we begin a slow uphill walk of about 1.5 hours to the first pass (4,100 meters), offering spectacular views of two valleys.

To your right, see the capital of the Incas, Cusco, surrounded by majestic mountains. Your guide will explain the history of the Huchuy Qosqo Inca Trail from Cusco, including how the Incas arrived in this area and the Spanish conquest. On the left, enjoy beautiful landscapes of mountains and farmland, along with two Inca sites at the bottom of the valley.

From the pass, continue along the valley side toward the upper end, crossing a small stream to reach Queullacocha Lake, a highlight of the Alternative Inca Trail 4 days experience. After breakfast, board the train along the mighty Urubamba River to KM 104, the starting point of the Short Inca Trail Machu Picchu. Witness the morning sun illuminating the majestic mountains before descending to the trail checkpoint at Chachabamba.

Pre-Trek Briefing

Returning from Machu Picchu

    • Private transfer from Ollantaytambo to Cusco (1h 30 min).

What to Pack for the Huchuy Qosqo Trek to Machu Picchu

  • Valid passport: A copy will not be accepted, the passport must be valid for at least 6 months. You must present the exact same document that you used to reserve your Inca Trail permits.

  • Medium trekking rucksack (15 – 25 litres): You will be responsible for carrying water on the first day, as we will not have time to filter the water before your first lunch.
  • Large plastic bags: to help organise and separate the clean from the dirty.
    Sleeping bag: we recommend bags for -10°C minimum.
  • Towel: We provide a small one, you may like a slightly larger one.
  • Small bottle of soap: we provide warm water every day for cleaning – it might make you feel fresh if you had some soap.
